Perfect rice for a side dish

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups long-grain rice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • 2.5 cups chicken broth or water, heat
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley leaves, for serving

Preparation:

  1. In a 2-quart saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the shallots and sauté until soft. Add the rice and stir until glossy and coated with butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste and add the warm broth. Add the minced garlic and thyme sprigs. Cover with a tight-fitting lid. Cook the rice for 15-17 minutes.
  2. Remove the thyme and garlic. Fluff the rice with a fork and add freshly chopped parsley.
