topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups premium flour
  • 4 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 cup of shortening + extra for frying
  • 2 eggs, beaten separately
  • 2 cups of sour milk, or more if needed
  • Apple pie filling (canned)
  • Cherry pie filling (canned)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Preparation:

  1. To prepare the doughIn a bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Stir in 1 cup of shortening with a knife until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 1 egg and sour milk and knead the dough. Add a little more sour milk if needed. Form the dough into a ball and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  2. Roll the dough into a large square. Trim the edges to create a rectangle. Using a butter knife, cut the dough into 8-10 long rectangles.
  3. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of filling onto the top halves of the rectangles.
  4. Brush the edges of the dough with the remaining beaten egg and seal by folding the bottom half of the rectangle over the filling. Then crimp the edges with the tines of a fork. Repeat with the other pies, filling half with apple filling and the other half with cherry filling.
  5. In a deep medium saucepan, heat the fat over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C). Fry the patties until golden brown, 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer to paper towels to drain excess fat.

Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
