Sweet and Spicy Bacon Bits (Appetizer)

Ingredients:

  • 450 g bacon, cut into 2.5-1 cm pieces.
  • 1/4 tbsp. natural maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Preparation:

  1. Spread the bacon in an even layer in a large skillet. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently with a silicone spatula, until the bacon is golden brown, about 20 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, combine maple syrup, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl.
  3. Pour off some of the rendered fat from the pan, reserving just a little. Return the pan to the heat and pour the maple syrup mixture over the bacon.
  4. Cook over low heat until the syrup thickens and the bacon is glazed, about 15 minutes. Serve the bacon warm.
