Fried Mahi-Mahi Fish in Sweet and Sour Sauce topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
Fried fish
- 700 g mahi-mahi fillet, cut into “fingers” approximately 8 cm long.
- About 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
Sweet and sour soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1.5 tsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp. l. rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- Juice of 1 large lime
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- Hawaiian chili water (optional)
Preparation:
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and cornstarch. Add 1/4 cup water. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat. When the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from the heat. The sauce can be served warm or at room temperature.
- Sprinkle the fish pieces evenly with lime juice and soy sauce and let sit for a few minutes. Place the breadcrumbs on a plate. Heat 0.5 cm of oil in a large heavy skillet. When a few breadcrumbs bounce cheerfully in the oil and quickly brown, dredge the fish pieces in breadcrumbs, shaking off excess liquid.
- Pan-fry the fish on all sides until the breading is golden brown and the fish begins to flake, about 5 minutes. Serve the mahi mahi immediately, drizzled with the sauce, or served separately in a gravy boat. For an extra kick, serve with Hawaiian chili water.
