Baked macaroni and cheese

Ingredients:

    Casserole

  • 230 gr. macaron cones
  • 3 tbsp (45 g) butter
  • 3 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tbsp mustard powder
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 large egg
  • 340 g grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of table salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 180C.
  2. In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook the pasta until just under al dente.
  3. While the pasta is cooking, melt the butter in a separate saucepan. Add the flour and mustard and stir for 5 minutes. Make sure there are no lumps in the mixture. Pour in the milk, add the onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for 10 minutes, then remove the bay leaf.
  4. Beat the egg and add 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Add the pasta mixture and pour into a 2-quart baking dish. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
  5. Melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the breadcrumbs. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the pasta. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
